How lucky are you?

Found this interesting article on "lucky" vs. "unlucky" people and how they perceive their circumstances and it got me thinking. How much of our success in life is determined by our own perceptions?

On another note, I attended a workshop for photo assistants put together by the folks at the Seattle chapter of the ASMP and I found it really informative and quite alot of fun! There were reps from a bunch of different vendors there as well as plenty of hands-on instruction of using different lighting equipment that one might find at a shoot. They also talked about some basic but key do's and don'ts on how to be an effective assistant (or photographer for that matter). Really great stuff! Cheers ASMP. You guys rock!

DIY awesomeness

Just thought I'd point out a great website for those of us who have a bit of a shoe-string budget when it comes to studio lighting. It's called DIYPhotography and you can check it out at www.diyphotography.net. They've got a ton of tutorials on how to make basic lighting setups using everything from pvc pipe to car windshield reflectors. My girlfriend and I recently put together a variation of the Light Tent to photograph some of her jewelry and I think the results turned out pretty well. You can check out some of the photos here.

Lemme know if any of you have tried out any of the other projects and if they worked!

The Road Ahead

New blog, first post. Friends always give me a hard time about my lack of commitment when it comes to maintaining a blog of some kind. "Blogs only work if you update them," they say. Well, here's to the first of many updates to come.

I started this blog to help increase my exposure as a photographer. All of the big names (and even most of the small ones) in the industry maintain some sort of blog or way to comment on work, life, whatever, so I decided to join the ranks and see what happens. Hope you enjoy it!
